Butter Chicken/ Murg Makhani


Today I am going to share recipe of Butter Chicken/ Murg Makhani. It was created in the 1950s at the Moti Mahal restaurant in Delhi.Butter Chicken / Murg Makhani is a popular dish of North India. It is a dish made of chicken in a mildly spices curry sauce and is popular all over world. This rich gravy is a combination of tomatoes, Butter, cream and curd.
You can serve with Butter Nan/Butter Roti.

Ingredient:
500 Gm Boneless Chicken ( Small Pieces)
100 Gm Butter
1 Small bowl Curd
1 Cup Milk
1 tbs kasturi methi
1 Mid size bowl chopped onion
1 Small size bowl chopped tomatoes
1 tbs chopped ginger and garlic
1 small size bowl tomato puree
1 chopped tbs green chili
1 tea spoon ginger & garlic Paste
1 tbs Chopped mint leaf
1 tbs salt (According to taste)
1 tea spoon sugar
2 tbs cream
1 tbs chicken masala
1 tbs Cumin seeds
1 tbs turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 tbs Garam Masala Powder
Whole Garam Masala ( 2 Green & Black cardamom pods and 2 cinnamon sticks)
1 tbs Lemon Juice

Method:
  • Marinate chicken pieces with Ginger and garlic paste, tomato puree, lemon juice, red chili, turmeric powder, salt, mint leaf and 2 Tablespoon melted butter.
  • Leave for 1 hour. While it is getting marinated, in parallel do the below:
    • Fry chopped onions, tomato, green chilies, chopped ginger and garlic, jeera seeds, and whole garam masala (2 green and 1 black cardamom pods and 2 cinnamon sticks) in heated oil for 5 to 7 minutes in an open pan.
    • Once it has cooled down, make a paste in mixer-grinder
  • Fry the marinated chicken pieces in little oil till it becomes light brown.
  • In the pan add the roasted masala paste (created above) and fry for 8-10 minutes.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and red chili powder mix it properly and fry for 10 min. 
  • Add fresh cream, curd, milk and Butter Chicken masala.
  • Mix properly, cover with lid keep on low flame
  • Once chicken has softened, remove from flame
  • In a separate pan, heat the remaining butter add kasturi meth and ½ spoon sugar and add this to the chicken.
  • Butter chicken is ready to serve,.
