Aloo Matar

Aloo Matar is a Punjabi dish which is made from potatoes and peas in a spiced creamy tomato based sauce. The sauce is generally cooked with garlic, ginger, onion, tomatoes and other spices but because it was Navratri going on I made it without using any onion and garlic. The taste was amazing, I didn’t miss the onions or garlic in the gravy at all. This is a perfect dish to make for a lunch or dinner. You can make it with little gravy to have with rice or can make it completely dry to enjoy with hot rotis.

250 Gms Boiled Potatoes (cut in small pieces)
2 Tomatoes (chopped)
1 tbs Ginger
1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
1 Green Cardamom
1 Black Cardamom
1 Bay leaf
½ tbs Chilli Powder
1 tbs Salt (according to taste)
1 tbs Turmeric Powder
1 tbs Curd
1 tbs Fresh Cream
½ Cup Milk
1 Small Bowl Green Peas
1-2 tbs Oil
2 tbs Butter
Little bit crushed Mint Leaves

·         In a pan take oil and roast cumin seeds, green and black cardamom, bay leaf. Roast only for 1 minute then add tomato and ginger and roast for 2-3 minutes
·         Now put this in  a grinder and make thick paste
·         Heat butter in open pan and add the paste and add salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, curd and fresh milk
·         Mix all this well and roast for 5-7 minutes
·         Add Potatoes and peas to this masala and mix it well and let it roast for 10-12 minutes on low flame
·         Once the peas become soft and masala is mixed properly together add milk and mint leaves, cover it and keep it on low flame
