Yellow Daal Tardka

For me daal is comfort food and whenever I come back from vacation or not feeling well than daal chawal is the food I want. Few days back I wanted to have daal and chawal but somehow was not in a mood for regular daals that we make so I made mix roasted yellow daal. It turned out truly delicious and something different to have when you are bored with regular  daal. Quick & easy recipe if you are craving for simple home food.

Ingredients:

4 tablespoon channa daal
4 tablespoon moong daal
4 tablespoon toordaal
1/2 small bowl chopped onion
1/2 small bowl chopped tomato
2 green chili
1 tablespoon chopped ginger & garlic
2 tablespoon butter
1/2 tablespoon fenugreek ( kasuri methi)
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon tomato puree
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder

Direction:

Roast all the three daals (chana, moong and toor) and 1 spoon chopped ginger and garlic in a pan (without any oil) till its very light brown in color

Soak the roasted daal and chopped ginger and garlic in water for 4 to 5 hours.

Boil the soaked daal with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt in a pressure cooker for a good 6-7 whistles or more till they are cooker completely.

Once the daal is cooked, then mash the daal and keep aside.

For tardka preparation - in another pan heat with ghee or butter. Add cumin seeds and fry them.
Then add the chopped onion . Once the onions become lightly browned, then add 1 spoon chopped ginger and garlic, chopped tomato, green chilly, tomato puree, kastoori methi and fry the ,mixture till light brown.

Add garam masala powder and 1 tea spoon sugar and mix properly.

When the oil start to leave the mixture, its an indication that the onion-tomatoes base mixture is cooked.

Add mashes daal to the fried mixture and keep the daal on light flame for 10 min.

Your Mixed Bhuna Yellow Daal Tardka is ready to serve.
