Ghavan


Ghavan is one of the most popular dishes of Maharashtra. For the uninformed, its similar to a dosa, but for which the batter is very different. Ghavan is a delicious recipe which can be served as a snack. This filling dish is best enjoyed with green chutney/ sauce.


Ingredient:
1 Cup Rice
1 tbs toor daal
1 tbs yellow Moong daal
1 tbs Green Moong daal
1 tbs Masoor daal
1 tbs Black Moong Daal
1 tbs Chopped garlic
1 tbs Chopped Green Chilly
1 tbs Cumin seeds
1/2 tbs black pepper seeds
1 tbs Salt
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tbs citric acid / lemon juice
1 tbs chopped ginger
1 small bowl chopped coriander leaves

Method
  • Soak rice and pulses in hot water for 1 hour.
  • Once it has soaked, make a paste in a mixer grinder and adding cumin seeds, garlic, green chili and black pepper seeds.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder,citric acid / lemon juice and coriander leaves.
  •  Mix properly and leave for 5 to 10 min.



  • Subsequent steps are similar to cooking a dosa. 
  • Spread 1/2 spoon vegetable oil on a heated non-sticky tawa. Spread the batter on the tawa in circular motion like the way we make a dosa. 
  • Keep on low flame and cover with lid.  


  • Heat both side of Ghavan till light golden color. Serve with any kind of Chutney.
