Onam is very famous festival of Kerela. Today I am sharing very authentic Kerela cuisine and Onam  Sadya  -Aviyal
Aviyal is made with mixed vegetables and cooked on base of curd, coconut, curry leaves.


1 Big bowl chopped vegetable - pumpkin, suran, plantain, petha, tendli, snak beans and beans
7-8 curry leaves
1/2 grated coconut
2 green chili
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
4 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
4 whole red chili
1 cup curd
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 cup water
1 teaspoon salt



  • Cut all the vegetables in 2 inches long pieces.
  • Boil all the vegetables in salted water and adding few curry leaves.
  • while the vegetables are boiling prepare coconut masala.
  • prepare a paste of coconut, cumin seeds and green chili in a grinder.
  • Once vegetables are half boiled. add turmeric powder and add the coconut paste.
  • Keep on low flame till the vegetables are fully cooked.
  • Add beaten curd in it and mix well.
  • After few min remove from flame and keep aside.
  • Now prepare a tadka by sizzling red whole chili, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • Put this tadka in the Avial .
  • You can serve as is which will have some curry or dry it completely as  I did here.
