Navratan Daal Khichdi


It was the occasion of Makar Sakranti and I Though why not make traditional Khichdi as dinner but instead of making Khichdi the regular way I tried making it with combination of nine daal/lentils and the result was amazing. The taste and flavor was so wholesome and what a complete meal it was. Even my little one loved it so I found easiest way to make everyone in my family eat 9 lentils in one go Navratan Khichdi is not only healthy but also very tasty. And as the saying goes " Khichdi ke char yaar- Chokha, Chutney,Ghee and Aachar" so don't forget to eat your Khichdi with its char yaar.


Ingredients:

1 tablespoon toor daal
1 tablespoon chana daal
1 tablespoon black urad daal
1 tablespoon white urad daal
1 tablespoon green moong
1 table spoon red masoor daal
1 tablespoon yellow moong daal
1 tablespoon black daal tukra
1 small bowl basmati rice'
1 chopped carrot
1 small bowl green peas
5-6 small cauliflower pieces
1 tablespoon chopped ginger & garlic
1/2 small bowl chopped onion
1 small bowl chopped toamtao
2 bay leaves'
2 black & green cardamom
2 red chili whole
2 green chili chopped
1/2 small bowl refine oil
2 tablespoon ghee
1 tablespoon slat
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 small bowl coriander leaves
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder

Directions:

1.       Take an open pan and roast all the daals till they are very light brown in color



2.       Then take a bowl and fill it up with water and soak all the daals for 1 hr
3.       After that in a pressure cooker boil all the daals with salt, turmeric powder, ginger 1/2 tsp , garlic 1/2 tsp , black cardamom, green cardamom, bay leaves, red chilli. You will need to 6-7 whistles for all the daal to become soft and boiled.



4. In another pan, heat oil and roast carrot, cauliflower,and green peas till they are light brown in color.
5. After that add basmati rice and add garam masala powder, cumin powder, 1/2 tbs salt just and roast for 5 minutes.



6. Then mix basmati rice with daal in pressure cooker and give 1 whistle and then keep it on the light flame for 5 minutes.
7.  In another pan heat ghee and add cumin seeds and fry them. Then add chopped onion, once they become light brown in color add gingerand garlic, tomatoes, green chili, red chili and mix it well and fry till it become light brown in color or when the oil start to leave the mixture, its an indication that the onion-tomatoes base mixture is cooked.
8.  Add this mixture to your Khichdi
9.  Now you Navratan Daal Mixture is ready to serve
